Meet the DJRFF team

The DJRFF project team (or duo!) has really missed being out and about this year - meeting amazing teachers and organisations who help us to bring our programmes to life - so we thought we’d take a moment to say ‘hello’ and introduce ourselves to all of our fantastic schools, pupils and partners, new and old! We’ve also picked some questions out of a hat for each other to answer, some serious and some….less so!

Emily is the foundation’s project manager - she is responsible for our “Get Creative with Data” course!

What was your first job?

I had a Sunday paper round in my village, which earned me the princely sum of £3.50 a week.

Can you speak any other languages?

I can speak German- I studied it to A-level, then picked it up again when I met my now-husband, who is German, back in 2014. We actually spent a year living and working in Berlin, which quickly became my second-favourite city- after Sheffield, of course!

Imagine that there are now 25 hours in a day! How do you spend your extra hour?

Ooh, that’s a tricky one! I keep saying I want to read more, so I like to think I’d spend it curled up on the sofa with a good book.

What Zoom activities have you been enjoying this year?

I’ve been learning highland and clog dancing, which has been a fun challenge! Our wonderful yoga teacher who usually runs classes for us in the office has also moved her sessions online, which has been very much appreciated. And of course, like the majority of the population, I’ve done enough Zoom quizzes to last me a lifetime!

Tis the season to be jolly! What’s your favourite Christmas cracker joke?

What do Alexander the Great and Winnie the Pooh have in common? The same middle name..

Rebekah is the foundation’s project coordinator - she looks after our beekeeping schools!

If you could pick up a new skill in an instant what would it be?

I’d love to be able to use British Sign Language fluently. This year I've been using some of my spare time to work through an introduction to BSL course. It’s been so interesting but a real challenge to remember all of the signs quickly and correctly!

Tell us about the best place you’ve ever visited?

I think the best place I've ever visited has to be Höga Kusten (The High Coast) - the final destination of a Swedish road trip. The views were stunning, it felt a little bit like being in a postcard!

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I enjoy walking and running and I’m a member of the Seven Hills WI, who have continued to meet virtually each month. I’ve also had a passion for music since I was young and this year have particularly enjoyed revisiting violin lessons (you’re never too old!) and joining some online choir sessions.

What’s your favourite thing about living and working in Sheffield?

It’s impossible to pick a favourite, but having the beautiful Peak District on the doorstep is definitely up there!

Would you rather travel back in time to meet your ancestors, or forward in time to meet your descendants?

I’d say back in time to meet my ancestors - it would be so fascinating to have a chat with my great-great-great grandma!

If you’d like to find out more about what we do, please get in touch - we’d love to hear from you!
