Made in Sheffield: meet our custom-built IoT hardware

How DJRFF is bringing data to life with hands-on computing projects.

We are delighted to have worked with Sheffield electronics manufacturer Pimoroni to develop bespoke data gathering hardware for use by pupils studying our “Get Creative with Data” course.

Designed to enable hands-on, project-based learning, and with classroom use in mind, the kits consist of low-cost Raspberry Pi Zero microcomputers which are fitted with our custom sensor boards, produced in Pimoroni’s city centre workshop. They are built to last with robust construction, and made accessible with easy-to-use layouts and colourful design.

Sensors on the board enable pupils to gather data on light, colour, motion and temperature. Through a series of hands-on experiments, and by using industry-standard data visualisation software to draw out patterns and trends, pupils deepen their understanding of both data and the environment. They also develop strong practical coding skills by programming the kit using Python.

You can read more about our work with Pimoroni on the Sheffield Digital website.
