DJRFF goes global!
From Madrid to Mississippi: the David and Jane Richards Family Foundation’s “Get Creative with Data” syllabus has gone global!
Our “Get Creative with Data” Computer Science syllabus, launched in Sheffield in 2019, has been taking off around the world. The pioneering lesson materials have now been downloaded by teachers in Spain, Egypt, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and the United States, as well as 69 schools and colleges across the UK, from Torquay to Edinburgh.
“Get Creative with Data” is designed for use in Key Stage 3. The free lesson materials, which have been created in collaboration with teachers and industry experts, encourage young people to explore data science through hands-on activities and project-based learning and equip them with essential skills to help them lead and succeed in the digital age.
We are delighted to have received some fantastic feedback about our syllabus from teachers both in the UK and abroad. A computer science teacher at an international school in Chongqing praised the “very descriptive resources” and “engaging activities”, whilst the assistant head at a college in Singapore singled out our lessons on machine learning and artificial intelligence in particular as a positive force for teaching about the role of technology in a global society.
Closer to home, the Astrea Academy Trust adopted the syllabus at four secondary schools in South Yorkshire in 2019 and has received 70 microcomputers from the education charity to help students with their data-gathering projects. Thanking the foundation for their support, a spokesperson for the trust said that the hardware has “allowed students to really let their imaginations fly, while showing them the all-important practical applications of data science.”
